How to Apply

You may apply online, using this form. Applications may also be obtained by calling (in Spokane) 456-7133 or (outside Spokane) 1-800-660-7133.

Once we receive your application, it is reviewed and references checked by members of a Screening Committee.

Next, the applicant meets with the Screening Committee to decide if their qualifications and interests are a good match for the Ombudsman Program.

A criminal check is completed and selected candidates are scheduled for 30-hour certification training.

The training covers:

  • Resident rights,
  • Fact-finding,
  • Communication skills,
  • The aging process,
  • Mediation with facility staff
  • Reporting

Upon completion, the newly Certified Volunteer Ombudsman will be assigned a long term care facility to begin this challenging and rewarding service. In-service training is held monthly.

Please return your application as soon as possible to be considered for our next four-day training. If you are interested, but the training dates do not fit your schedule, please indicate on your application. Any questions or concerns, call the office at (509) 456-7133.
