Senior Energy Assistance is funded from fees collected through tariffs charged to customers of the Avista Utility Co. This program provides assistance for both heating and non-heating Avista expenses and usually has funding available throughout the year.

 SENIOR ENERGY ELIGIBILITY

 Households must:

• Have an open Avista gas or electric account
• Have a member 60 or over, whose name is on the account
• Must be between 126% and 200% of poverty.  If the household is over these guidelines, non-reimbursed medical expenses can be considered
• If below 125% of poverty, cannot have received Energy Assistance help for the current heating season and all Energy Assistance funding must have been spent out

Total household income is based on 200% of the federal poverty Guidelines, with consideration given to medical expenses. Household grants are set at $300.00 for Avista heated homes and $100.00 for Avista electric customers whose heat is another source.

Households are eligible for this program once per heating season (October 1st to September 30th).

Senior Assistance requests can be done over the phone or in person.  Call the office that serves your zip code. If your household is not eligible or if funds are no longer available, SNAP will refer you to an available resource.
