
What is SNAP's Homeless Program all about?
The main concept of SNAP's Homeless Program is case management, housing
is only a component of case management. We firmly believe that through case
management we can address the issue that caused homelessness. Case
management is a vital tool in assist homeless household in becoming self sufficient.
What types of homeless housing does SNAP provide?
SNAP's Homeless Program provides several services for homeless
households, includes city and rural outreach activities, homeless sack
dinner weekly for street homeless, emergency temporary housing shelter,
transitional housing, permanent housing with transitional housing service,
community voice mail, homeless day care and aftercare for our homeless participants.
Does it matter if I have bad credit or an eviction on my record?
SNAP Homeless program works with households that have credit and eviction
issues? Those issues are worked on during case management. If you are
applying for SNAP Housing, our property management department will consider
rental and criminal history as factors of eligibility.
How long will it take before I am in a house?
SNAP Homeless program provides case management, housing is consider a
component of case management. Once you have been approved for the homeless
program, you will need to start meeting with your caseworker, start attend
life skill classes and develop a case plan. Working with your caseworker,
you will also will do assessments, goal development and identify your
household needs, that may include housing.
How long can I stay in SNAP Homeless housing once my household is placed?
Length of stay in SNAP's temporary housing program is based on several
factors: each one of the housing programs has time restrictions, household
participation will decide on how long a household can stay, and is the household being program compliant.
How much will the rent be?
SNAP Homeless program does not charge rent, we have social service payments
and co-pay fees. These expenses vary from the various homeless temporary
housing options and the household situations.
Do I have to share bathroom and kitchen facilities?
No, each of our temporary housing units are scattered throughout the city
and county and they are individual housing units. You most likely drive by
these housing units and do not even know that they are being used to house
homeless households. The temporary housing units do not come with furniture
or household items. Once a household is placed in a temporary housing unit,
SNAP may be able to assist in acquiring housing items.
What are some of the basic rules of SNAP Homeless Program?
- No drugs or alcohol
- No overnight guest and guest past 10 PM
- No weapons and acts of violence
- Meet weekly with your case manager
- Two life skill classes per month, with one life skill class being a SNAP
- Life Skill Class
- Check into the office 2 times per week, by phone or in person
- Respect yourself, respect your neighbors and help yourself to become self sufficient
